Dual nationality case: SC suspends membership of three MPAs
ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court suspended the membership of two Punjab MPAs and one MPA from Sindh during hearing of the dual nationality case.
From the Punjab provincial assembly the memberships of Muhammad Akhlaq and Amina Buttar were suspended. While the Sindh Assembly membership of Ahmed Ali Shah was suspended
A three member bench of the Supreme Court headed by Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry resumed hearing of the parliamentarians holding dual nationality case.
During proceedings allegations of holding dual nationality against MNAs Khawaja Asif, Anushey Rehman and Iftikhar Nazeer were withdrawn.
The apex court raised several questions regarding the British citizenship of Rehman Malik to which his counsel replied that he would have to consult with his client (Malik) before he could give any answers.
The Supreme Court has already suspended the National Assembly membership of Farahnaz Ispahani and the Senate membership of Rehman Malik. Notices were also issued to fourteen other lawmakers accused of being dual nationals.
