Murree, Nathiagali receive snowfall in April after 15 years

ISLAMABAD: The unexpected snowfall on Monday in the hilly areas of Nathiagali, Galliyat and Murree in April astonished the locals and visitors, breaking a 15-year record. Talking to APP, an official of Pakistan Meteorological Department said on Monday this was an unusual phenomenon as snowfall in April was earlier recorded in 1996. Usually, the snowfall period ends by mid-March or some cool winds blow till the end of this month but snowfall rarely occurs in April, the official said. Meanwhile, isolated thundershower on Monday noon turned the weather pleasant for residents of twin cities who were afraid of an early arrival of the summer season due to the rising temperature in March. The rain made the weather cool, providing the people a chance to enjoy the spring season. “I am enjoying spring vacation and cycling in the cool weather,” said Najeeb, a school boy who topped in Class V and got a bicycle as a reward. The floral and bird shows providing recreational opportunity to residents to enjoy the festivity of spring have been arranged by the Islamabad Horticulture Society, CDA and other educational and private institutes in the city.
